Manners and the History of Socks
Nearly made a serious error in judgment last night at work. A patron was being particularly obnoxious and curtly demanded that I renew her book. Something in the rude way she said it brought out the Momma in me and I very nearly reminded her to say PLEASE. Part of me regrets NOT reprimanding her like a 5 year old. Is it really that hard to be polite? I think not.
So school....going good so far...I think. Well, Boogie did get in trouble one day and insists he's going to fight with his bully tomorrow by kicking him in the leg. Not really sure how to handle that. I want this kid to leave him alone, and I can pretty much see that if this kid gets a good butt kicking he'll leave Boogie alone, but I also don't want Boogie to get in trouble either.
Since Boogie's been in school I've taken the opportunity to knit while listening to books on CD. I'm halfway through an Alexander Hamilton bio....which led me to ask Boogie if he knew who Hamilton was. Nope. No idea. He knew that George Washington was the first president of the US, but I was surprised to realize that he hasn't really learned much history at school....which of course has me on a mission now to find some history books he'd be interested in. There's a fantastic series of historical fiction called 'American Girl' which of course, is aimed at girls and features girls and therefore he wouldn't touch it because girls are gross. I haven't had a chance to talk to our children's librarian about a boys equivalent, but I have a feeling there isn't anything.
But also, I need to be tricky. Now that he knows that I know that he doesn't know much about history, I can't just hand him a kids history book. There's no way he would read it. So some historical fiction would be great...especially in comic book form. Hmmmm.
Hubby says I need to include pics in my posts to make this blog thing more interesting. If I was organized I would have lovely pics of the single sock and the lace hat that I finished while listening to the Hamilton book, but alas I am not. Oh, I do have a pic of the sock in progress. Pics of the hat will be forthcoming. No makeup today means no pics of me in hats today.
So here's the sock mostly done on my badly-in-need-of-a-pedicure foot.
